I fear it’s very un-Chinese of me

to speak more English than Mandarin.

to not know my Hokkien

to not kow-tow and serve tea to my parents on CNY morning before they hand me the angpows.

to subtly talk back at elders and make them feel ridiculed because they were offering me too much ‘wisdom’.

to be gay.

to dread being dragged to China.

to prefer adopting children instead of giving birth.

to swear and cuss instead of being polite and tactful.

to have high alcohol tolerance.

to love wearing dark colors as opposed to the bright reddish ones.

to prefer Caucasian features over Oriental ones.

and to be secretly (read: guiltily) happy that the fridge broke down (dunno what’s the proper term for rosak) this morning just before we’re heading back to our hometown because maybe I don’t have to go back anymore.

What do YOU think makes you not very Chinese?

On a lighter note

Let’s all bug Kim to get married faster so we have an extra angpow to collect every CNY!!! You can see her rosy cheeks! Sign of uhh…. fertility romance!

Over and out.

Why don’t you do it this year just to be nice?

    ‘to be gay.
to prefer adopting children instead of giving birth.’

Um … like, being gay it might be difficult to have children unless you get a sperm donor.

The fact that I am Aussie is normally a dead give away … okay, I have some Chinese on my mother’s side, but it’s sooo distant. I have a Chinese cousin in HK I don’t know … unless she’s moved, but she’s very Chinese … you know, living there and everything … :-)
