I’ve just found out that I’ll be sent to Melbourne for a short business trip next month. My first work related trip, w00t! I’m so excited, but I’m also very nervous about making an impression on the clients. This is my only shot to better prospects so I rather not screw it up.
And I’ll be staying at the Grand Hyatt, w00t! My per diem is awesome and I will not eat and I will only shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop shop SHOP

Welcome to the World’s Most LIvable Cities. Of all the cities I’ve been in, it’s the best but you might not be able to fully soak it all in in just one short trip. You should hit Bridge Rd, Richmond for factory outlets. Other factory outlets (non accessible by public transport, only vehicles) are Direct Factory Outlet (DFO) in Cheltenham and Brandsmart in Nunawading. Myer on Bourke St has one entire building dedicated to the ladies. Melbourne city is not as rich in culture as it was maybe 5 years ago? It’s overwhelmed with international students in its CBD and it’s like a mini Asian melting pot. Hop on a train to South Yarra, walk along Chapel St or Toorak Rd for some fabulous (expensive) shops and cafes. And, try out the Trampoline gelati along Swanston St. Go to Lygon St for the best Italian food ever. Hop into my alma mater (melb uni) along the way to marvel at its architecture of the law faculty and be disgusted by the construction going on at the EEE building. Walk along Lt Lonsdale St (in the city) for some hidden cafes tucked away in alleys. Shopping along Collins St for LV, Gucci, Hermes (i think?). VIsit Lt Collins St for some smaller local, world-class designers. Hop on a city circle train (free) for a tour around the city. Visit the parks and sit there and daydream your day away. Go to Docklands for some of the hippest most happening bars. There’s endless things you can do in Melbourne that cannot be done anywhere else. It’s rich in culture. Visit the museums (free!), walk about. Smile at strangers. Be amazed at how friendly locals can be. Check out Federation Square.
I’ve got an entire category devoted to Melbourne alone. It’s home and although I’m back, it always will be home.
Oh, most importantly, bring a brolly. It still has 4 seasons in a day!
That’s Me!bourne.

Don’t have too high hopes for Grand Hyatt. It’ll be a disappointment.
Park Hyatt’s great though.
Head down to Supre on Swanston, Sportsgirl on Bourke, and don’t miss out Melbourne Central on Swanston (they have some cheap finds if you dig hard enough) if you’re on a tight budget. Walk simply walk down Collins St where G.Hyatt’s conveniently smacked on if you’ve got extras to spend. Do take a trip down to Flinders Lane, heaps of hidden treasure to check out.
Don’t miss out on Bridge Rd(Richmond) or Smith St(Fitzroy/Collingwood)for end of seasons, Brunswick(Fitzroy) for wicked vintage, Chapel St for splurge… I could go on forever.
Let me know if you’d need some serious shopping fix in Melbourne. I’ll hook you up:P

melbourne…how i envy you…miss that place!
shopping,
1. chapel street, toorak
2. brunswick street, fitzroy (this should be on your MUST NOT MISS LIST! i reckon this street embodies melbourne! little cafes, little bars, little bookstores, little clothing shops! oh oh…and don’t miss out on a cafe called mario’s…they’re at the corner of brunswick st and johnston st…)
3. bridge road, richmond (factory outlet)
if you have time, just spend half a day and explore the city…especially the alleyways and little side streets…many a gem are to be discovered!
cheers and have a good time there…

There was a recent comment that local graduates can’t find a job. Could this 2 relate to each other?

Pack everything you own & take it with you to Melbourne. It will be the coldest you have EVER been in your life!

its not THAT cold here in melbourne at the moment… we’re actually having some nice 12 degree days w the sun out and everything!
if you wanna go to Brandsmart in Nunawading then you CAN take the train to Nunawading station and just walk like 10 minutes. if you ask people along the way, you’ll find it fine.
erm… you have to go to Smith st which is just parallel to Brunswick St… cuz it has like awesome factory outlet stores w pretty dresses.
if you can stop by the big DFO on the way back from the airport, you should check that out. its massive and its filled with bargains (but nice looking ones)….
hmmm… cant think of anything else atm but if you want you can check out www.thatsmelbourne.com.au and look at their shopping links.

so, bridge road is good. direct factory outlets (dfo) tends to be useful. smith st. is great if you’re looking for sporting items (or sportswear even). thatsmelbourne.com.au is a good site, as well is the melbourne.citysearch.com.au (these are for things to do in melbourne, latter for events)
if you need a “tour guide” and the timings right, drop me a line, i can possibly play that role.
what about other sites rather than shopping? sight seeing is a great thing to do in melbourne

Ummm, I think there is a message not to be missed when someone describes 12 degree days as “nice”.
Don’t pack all you own, wear it instead!

Jon: but i’m a tourist. tourists are suckers!!!! lol
geekchic: wow thanks for the suggestions! and the brolly part, it’s never occurred to me, thanks!!
YC: oh well, i couldn’t be happier that they haven’t put me up at some seedy hotel with peeling walls or something
thanks for the ideas babe. serious shopping fix…hrmm, not the very expensive kind right? hehe
joe: thanks for the ideas!!!
FA: :*(
Mr Green: why laugh…shopping cannot meh?…
spiller: cold? beachwear? i can’t register… heh
lee wee tak: thanks wee tak. what a terrible video, it gives a bad name to local uni goers and the country. upm is huge though, so 50 of those hooligans doesnt mean all of them are like that. but the audacity of their actions does reflect the attitude of the university towards such things and i think that is a cause for concern. and no, i don’t there the video is related to unemployability.
KY: i’ll be cocooned with modern luxuries and amenities!
sotong: ooh i love it too..but no matter how much i shop also cannot beat u! lol
steve at the pub: the coldest i’ve been is -10…
joanna: thanks for the tips and link! for someone who is accustomed to sunny 30 degrees….12 is somewhat chilling but i’ll see! hehehe
colin: thanks for the offer colin
think i wont have enough time for sight-seeing though…barely 1 day of free time
Z : lol omg has this turned into a competition?
steve at the pub: lol ok i hear you!
