October 17th, 2007 admin Posted in Personal, Random Musing | 3 Comments »

It was LooLoo’s birthday yesterday. The girls and I got together after a few months of not seeing one another! We had Teochew porridge and it was sooooo goood.

Me, Jayna and LooLoo.
Me, Jayna and Birthday girl, LooLoo.

So nice to get together and chatted till kingdom comes.

I’ve painstakingly posted about 100 posts from Google cache and imported 230 posts from Blogspot (where I blogged for about 2 years).

That’s almost 50% of posts recovered. I’m not so sad anymore ;)

How is it like singing karaoke with 3 professional singers (with albums and best selling songs)?

One word.

Embarrassing.

It’s all gone.

October 11th, 2007 admin Posted in Ranting | 13 Comments »

Yes. All gone. P00f.

Almost 700 worth of postings have vanished. 4 years of memories. Erased.

Read story here for reference.

I was completely unaware that something this catastrophic could happen. I didn’t back up at all. So smart, right?

What I can do is, manually re-post all the cached posts by Google. Nah, I don’t think so.

Just keeping my fingers crossed that the unreliable hosting company could at least restore 60% of data. I’m not even hoping for 100%.

By the way, I’ve changed to a local server (http://www.ipserverone.com, very prompt and helpful and reasonably priced, thanks CLL!), which is also serving KimKomm.com. Things should load much faster now.

Oh well, at least now I’ll have no excuse to delay the site revamping.

Remember people, backup your blogs. It could happen to you too.

Stopping to shower.

September 6th, 2007 admin Posted in Random Musing | No Comments »

I’ve worked non-stop since morning. My wrist is hurting. I’m only stopping now to shower =P

Makes me wonder, why couldn’t I put in as much effort as this when I was working for other people?

I really want to have a bowl of piping hot mushroom soup now.

p/s: thanks for all your comments. I really appreciate them. Please keep them coming =)

It’s not about you, I’m just jealous!

August 30th, 2007 admin Posted in Ranting | No Comments »

Another argument over the same issue. How the fuck am I supposed to explain why I’m jealous. I just bloody am. Am I insecure? I don’t know, maybe. Truth is, it’s not even about you. But it would have hurt if I had said that, wouldn’t it?

I think women are just generally competitive, please correct me if I’m wrong. We’re constantly comparing, who have better hair, who have leaner arms, who’s got a better personality, who’s more intelligent and the list goes on forever. It’s just something that we do, consciously or unconsciously.

Sometimes, you don’t even know this person but you develop a dislike towards her, just because she has better hair and she flirts like a ho (although nobody sees through that except you!) and then, you build on the dislike from snippets of accounts by other people who had contact with this person. And BAM, a fresh villain is born!

But you know it’s jealousy. I know it’s jealousy and it is unwarranted. But 99% of the time I just let my inner bitch goes around her own business as long as she doesn’t screw up my day-to-day life. That is till your boyfriend/husband or good friend decides to fuel your jealousy. “Hey, that girl’s got nice hair”.

I went fucking livid. “Shut up, I don’t want to hear her being talked about favourably in our house”. “Why, I’m just stating a fact. She’s got nice hair. You’re with me and I want only you”. War ensues.

You get my gist?

Of course, this is not just about hair, it’s only a hypothetical situation. I don’t expect men to understand that, especially not self-absorbed men. But ladies, do you get this as well?

Dr. House was the daft prince!

August 30th, 2007 admin Posted in Extraordinary | No Comments »

I had just finished watching an episode of Blackadder 3 and waited long enough for the credit to roll by. Then I spotted a familiar name, Hugh Laurie.

So I googled the name and guess what I found, Dr. House! No wonder it’s so familiar, Dr. House was the daft prince regent!

Blackadder, Baldrick and Prince Regent.

Dr. Gregory House

Can’t believe I had completely no idea. Just something I felt like sharing. Heh.

Why so few comments?

August 29th, 2007 admin Posted in Ranting | No Comments »

Okay, this is probably going to piss off a lot of people. But I need to know, where are the comments!?

It’s really frustrating, I know for a fact that there are people reading my blog. I can see from my sitemeter and the page views but yet, the comments are grossly lacking.

Yeah, I suppose one might say that I should be blogging for myself and therefore the number of comments should be secondary. But no, no, no, I always tell people (who care to ask) the reason why I love blogging is the interaction! When there’s no interaction on my blog posts, it’s really dreadful to write another post. Especially after I’ve put in so much time editing pictures and reorganising my thoughts for a post but all I get in return is nothing more than a count on the sitemeter.

As simple as it sounds, the reason why I’m still here is the comments. How do you feel when you wake up everyday, check your comments and find only spam comments or the odd self-whoring comment? It’s very discouraging, you know.

Tell me, I’m willing to listen, why did I use to get more comments but it’s so damn difficult nowadays? Is my blog getting uninteresting or are you guys just getting lazier? C’mon, be brutal with me!

Oh who am I kidding, this post will probably have zero comments anyway!

Honda’s Rhino Rescue Project

August 28th, 2007 admin Posted in Extraordinary | No Comments »

Major floods in Britain and South Asia, and just the other morning I heard on the radio that the number of tropical typhoons has doubled in the past year. Animals are dwindling by the hundreds while wilderness itself is fast becoming a legend. Mother Nature is taking the brunt thanks to pollutions, wastage, deforestation and simply pure ignorance.

In the midst of all these chaos, I’m truly comforted that an organisation such as Honda Malaysia is doing its part in conserving our ecosystem. Besides the main objective of saving the endangered Sumatran rhinos (there are only less than 300 left in the world!), the Honda’s Rhino Rescue Project aims to raise awareness and educate future generation and the public on environmental & conservation issues.

For the past 1.5 years, Honda Malaysia and WWF-Malaysia have initiated and drove various events and activities in order to strengthen the Sumatran Rhino conservation efforts. Among the notable activities are touching base with primary schools in Klang Valley to educate the younger generation and capturing the first ever footage of Sumatran Rhino in the wild.

Honda Malaysia has no intention of stopping or even slowing down, in spite of the known challenges in conserving the unique species. Instead, they are determined to make real the impossible dreams of removing Sumatran Rhinos from the endangered list. This sense of determination, which they call “Challenging Spirit”, ought to be emulated by all of us stakeholders of our earth.

I’m honoured to be part of this promotion of Honda’s Rhino Rescue Project and sincerely hope that this unassuming blog post would stir a little curiosity in the conservation of Sumatran Rhinos, a Malaysian heritage.

Frogway Did Not Croak!

August 25th, 2007 admin Posted in Picture Galore, Reviews | No Comments »

Thanks to TV Smith, I got a ticket to watch Frogway at Actor’s Studio, Bangsar Shopping Centre. First thought, wtf…frogs? Too random right. And what’s more, it’s a musical! The actors will be playing singing frogs? I mean seriously, I was almost sure the show is going to suck. Playing singing frogs, calling for the rain issit? By the way, it did rain the whole day.

    Katak oh katak,
    Kenapa panggil hujan?

    Macam-mana aku tak panggil,
Ular nak makan aku - ular nak makan aku

    Ular oh ular,

    Kenapa nak makan katak?

    Macam-mana aku tak makan,
Memang makanan aku - memang makanan aku!!!

I went anyway, what do you call it? Morbid curiosity, ya.

A sypnosis of the musical….

Eddy, a singing frog, is rejected by his pond community because frogs aren’t supposed to sing! He leaves the pond, and the love of his life, to seek his fame and fortune downriver at the Swamp. Here Eddy’s singing talent propels him to stardom with the help of two cunning agents, a Snake and a Stork. He reaches the top of the entertainment world when he gets to perform on ‘Frogway’.

But fame, fortune and riotous living take their toll on our star. Blinded by pride and rejection, he turns to the dark side and dumps his best friend Freddy the Toad. To his horror, Eddy stumbles upon a dastardly plot by his agents to rob him of his fortune before killing and EATING him.

Okay, it was good!!! Singing frogs were good stuff.

The musical opened with beautiful music played by a live band just behind the gigantic fake weed (we’re supposedly at a pond, you see). And then Mr. Thor Kah Hoong (last seen him on The Homecoming) emerged in the funkiest looking costume as Horatio the geriatric frog. By the way, Mr. Thor always reminds me of Bob Dylan for some reason.

One by one, the actors came on stage to complete the story of Frogway. Vince of Akademi Fantasia’s fame played Eddy the frog flawlessly. Okay, I’m going to say this, televisions don’t do justice to his voice at all, I’ve always thought his singing was quite so-so, but I was so wrong. Dude sang really bloody well and whenever he opened his mouth I was blown away. Ash Nair as Freddy the Toad, well, at first I thought he’s just a tad too skinny to play a toad but he really pulled his performance up a notch to make up for his slimness (envy, envy) with incredibly strong vocals and stage presence.

Helen the Fish, Shirley the Frogette, Freddy the Toad, Eddy the Frog and Horatio the Old Frog.

Ina Fabregas as Helen the Fish, well casted! Playing a fish is certainly no easy feat, but the girl sang like a pro while continuously moving her arms (to simulate fins) at the same time! Impressive stuff, okay. And her costume was soOo beautiful (kudos to Shegar, the costume designer). Her little sister, Marialle Fabregas was also in the show as one of the Frogettes. Can you believe it, only 14 years old!

There’s a Japanese frog named Shirley among the Frogettes and it’s played by Chelsia Ng. Chelsia Ng was not just playing Shirley, she was Shirley! How the hell did she get that authentic Japanese accent? I have no idea but I have all the respect for her.

The Frogettes

When Harith Iskandar and Elaine Daly came out as Smiley the Snake and Suzanna Stork respectively, the hall was roaring with laughter. He’s the funny man as usual but I have to point out that Harith’s hissing was so contagious I kept hearing hissing in the audience. As for Elaine Daly, so gorgeous, eventhough in that ridiculous wig. I’ve always known her as a model (I even had a picture of her pinned to my wall several years ago to motivate my weight loss rotflol) so seeing her act, and so well to boot, really left me in awe.

Harith Iskandar as Smiley the Snake.

Elaine Daly as Suzana the Stork, giving Eddy the Frog the evils.

I totally recommend checking this musical out. Written by Marcel Nunis, directed by Harith Iskandar and composed by Michael Veerapen, Frogway is heartwarming, the singing is fabulous and there will definitely be no shortage of laughter. Details of the musical as follow:
